1. on a cloud／on cloud nine：如雲般輕飄飄的開心感
My daughter has been very happy since I promised her an ipod touch.
→My daughter has been on a cloud since I promised her an ipad 2.
這裡用 very happy 並不是不對，但是如果你還想要更進一步傳達「輕飄飄的、像騰雲駕霧般地開心」，on a cloud/on cloud nine 就是個很漂亮的表達。
2. under a cloud：被懷疑了，有如烏雲罩頂
It was the second time the mayor makes the government unreliable.
→It was the second time the mayor has left government under a cloud.
當我們一想到「不可靠、被懷疑」，就會直接反應出 unreliable 或 suspected 這一類的字。但是，如果你要說的是那種「會被懷疑、烏雲罩頂」好一陣子的狀態，最精準的用法就是 under a cloud。
3. cloudy：狀況像灰濛濛的雲般不明朗
The future of world trade is bad.
→The future of world trade looks very cloudy.
當我們談論、評估未來時，要盡量避免用斬釘截鐵的字。像bad／good就是一種很極端的形容詞，會讓自己的說辭毫無退路。cloudy 這個字用在這裡恰恰好，不會把話說死，但也可以清楚表達未來的「黯淡、不明朗」。
4. clouding agents：起雲劑
Clouding agents are a type of food additive used to make beverages more cloudy, and thus more natural-looking and visually appealing.
相信大家都聽過「起雲劑」這個名詞，但可能不知道它的英文怎麼說。clouding 是指讓食物看起來「更自然、更好看的過程」；agents 和「仲介」的意義有些連結，一語道破，它就是「化學藥劑」。
5. cloud computing：雲端運算
Cloud computing refers to the use and access of multiple server-based computational resources via a digital network.
cloud 這個字和「網路」的聯想是近兩年的產物，你絕對要知道。所謂的「雲端」要傳達的就是「網路」的意象，而「雲端運算」的概念就是利用網路連結不同電腦，使各種服務更無遠弗屆。
