中國東方航空公司一架波音737客機21日在廣西「斷崖式」墜機，從ADS-B 飛行數據看來，飛機原本在2萬9100英尺高度巡航，卻突然急墜至3225英尺高度，隨後訊號消失無蹤。
從29100英尺至3225英尺，期間僅有1分34秒。
機上132人，至截稿前尚未搜尋到生存者，也未尋獲罹難者遺體。

大部分的飛機失事發生於起飛或降落期間，21日東航這類的急墜事件相對罕見，生還希望也更加渺茫。
非營利組織飛行安全基金會執行長莎西迪(Hassan Shahidi) 說，現在判斷失事原因為時過早，「未來幾天，東方航空公司、中國航空監管當局、中國調查人員，以及波音將取得更多黑盒子數據、駕駛艙語音記錄器、飛行數據，以及其他資料」。
